Even Q Didn’t Know About This Not-So-Super-Yet-Spy

Barry Nelson, former Cal grad and the first screened James Bond, died at the age of 89. This would be a sad day for us if we even knew who Barry Nelson was before we read his article.

To be honest, we didn’t even know there was a Bond before Connery (to be brutally honest, looking at this guy’s picture, we think they made the right choice). He played a bit role on the TV-movie version of Casino Royale in 1954 before Sean was cast for Dr. No in 1962. We don’t even know where we would find his movies (Dr. Kildare’s Victory? Johnny Eager? Tenth Avenue Angel?) , so we’re guessing his claim to fame will be the answer to that tricky little trivia. Then again, if we’re able to land ourselves in a trivia box by the end of our lives, we figure that’d be an ample claim to fame.
