Jim Nantz, You’re Still Not My Friend

Posted by: Avinash on Sunday, April 8th, 2007

We have to admit, there’s always something special about Sunday at Augusta National that seperates it from any other golf event, even when the course is winning and the players are losing, the weather is 30 degrees below normal, and no one has had a remarkable round up through the first 54. Tiger’s even par yesterday through rough conditions looks pretty impressive…until you realize he bogeyed the last two holes, making his jump to 2nd that more impressive. Stuart Appleby is in the lead, but if you think the bookmakers at Vegas are shifting the line in Appleby’s favor after nearly giving the tournament away at 17 yesterday, you’re out of your goddamned mind.

Just to give you an idea of how Augusta owned everyone yesterday, Vijay Singh shot a 79…and is still 5 strokes back. Seriously, what? At least at the U.S. Open you expect the golf course to own you, but when you shoot up shitty rounds, you’re done because at least one person will catch fire. Not exactly a Masters to remember. Yet.

We won’t be live blogging the event, simply because it’s the most boring event to live blog. (What in God’s name are we going to talk about? How great Tiger is again? We can’t golf for shit yet, we don’t know anything about the game.) But we’ll be watching and giving you the champion winner at some point. If anyone’s still watching.

Live coverage 10:30-11:30 online, Amen Corner online from 9 AM-end. Or get to a TV. Or don’t obsess over golf. It’s unhealthy. [The Masters]
