The Disappointing Network Stats–Where’s the Shaved/Unshaved Results?

The new Facebook has released something called Network Statistics to help us aggregate our interests about the particular networks we’re a part of. I thought I’d get something useful out of this, just like I’m sure that chick to the right got a lot out of that group. Berkeley students are supposed to be more unique and eccentric in their tastes, right?Nope; complete letdown here. You’d think there’d be some interesting data to translate to the rest of the country, but here are the stats of note (and our unlikely-to-be-validated analysis):
- Favorite film is Fight Club. We’re guessing the dads of Berkeley students didn’t play enough baseball with their sons.
- 27% listed as liberal/very liberal, 4% as conservative/very conservative, 51% not listed. That last stat, combined with the 3% apathetic seems about on line with the number of people who don’t vote. Depressingly, only 1% are libertarian.
- Top music might as well be a mellow/shitty rock and roll smorgasboard. Other than the Beatles, there’s Coldplay, Jack Johnson, Radiohead, Greenday, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and more lullaby-type bands.
- The top 4 shows are Family Guy, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Friends. Gag.
- The 5th most popular film on campus is Garden State. We expect too much of Berkeley students to perceive a good films from a crapfest.
Our conclusions? Berkeley students, when taken as a whole aren’t much different from students from the rest of the country, besides the fact they need to get laid more–26 % are single, 43% are not listed (which might as well mean single). Too much depression and melancholia among students here. Smile once in awhile kids!
