Adjust Your Tassels, Part I (Graduation Ceremonies, May 10th)

We have to admit this before we start our rundown of ceremonies…we LOATHE the current system of graduation at UC Berkeley. In most sane colleges, everyone would finish their classes, pound through their finals, and then bathe in the moment of glory. Nope. In Berkeley, students have their commencement…and sometimes have the wonderful fortune of heading back to the Stacks to study for that last big test. What great memories these students will have of Berkeley, the college that treated them like pounds of meat. There’s already been a Lavender Graduation, which makes us call for a graduation for all the straight people. If they get a special one, why shouldn’t we? Come on, aren’t we all equal in our self-entitlement?
Here are the ceremonies today…
Rhetoric/Film Studies, Zellerbach Hall at 2 PM. Mark Danner, who once managed to write an entire issue of the New Yorker, is your speaker. He is not optimistic about Iraq.
Near Eastern Studies, Lipman Room in Barrows at 2 PM. A quick Facebook search of the major brings up 79 matches and about 19 to 20 people graduating this year. We wish our graduation was this size. If we ever get out of here.
