No George, NOOOOOOOOOOO!

In some ways, George Lucas, himself a local Bay Area resident over at Skywalker Ranch, reminds us of an aging sports wunderkind who never really figured out that his time had past. After shooting to stardom and enjoying nearly decades of unparalleled success, they kept on tinkering, kept on playing until the point were they could barely keep up with anyone else. This is what Lucas reminds us of when he made those sequels–his heart was in the right place, but his head couldn’t keep up with all the developments. Hence the disappointing results.

So when he dropped this bombshell earlier this week, Star Wars casual fans all over the world gave their best impression of a Wookie groan.

Lucas, by the way, says he is readying “Clone Wars,” an animated series for TV that’s derived from “Star Wars.” Many “Star Wars” characters appear in “Clone Wars,” but voiced by other actors.

And here’s a little news: Lucas tells me he will make two more live-action films based in the “Star Wars” era.

“But they won’t have members of the Skywalker family as characters,” he said. “They will be other people of that milieu.”

The two extra films will also be made for TV and probably be an hour long each. But, like “Clone Wars,” Lucas doesn’t know where on TV they will land.

Other people? Unless R2-D2 is prominently involved, we’ll probably pass on this. We’ve had plenty of Star Wars in our lives, and we can’t really keep on watching these serial adventures…it’s just too much for us to…handle…

…Oh who are we kidding, we’ll be watching with everyone else. Damnit George.
