Does This Paragraph Make You Want to Quit Bottled Water?

Berkeley might consider themselves a bastion of the environmental cause, but man do they like drinking their bottled water. Obsessed with flouride, chemicals in the tap water, or just trying to be cool, the yuppies are always looking for ways to feel like they’re overseas and very trendy hipsters. It’s just so cool to be Euro, because who really wants to be American anyway?

Hopefully, the brief snippet after the jump will give you an idea of how unkind an indulgence this is. Charles Fishman, courtesy of Made to Stick:

“In San Francisco, the municipal water comes from inside Yosemite National Park. It’s so good the EPA doesn’t require San Francisco to filter it. If you bought and drank a bottle of Evian, you could refill that bottle once a day for 10 years, 5 months, and 21 days with San Francisco tap water before that water would cost $1.35.”

How do you guys feel about bottled water? Do you drink it while you trug along campus? Fans of tap/filtered water? Are you an alien that wishes to understand what this water thing is? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
