Irony Can Be Sweet

You know, sometimes protecting the things that you love requires some distance to ensure you don’t impair your relationship any further. Otherwise who knows what could happen? Things could get thrown, names could be shown, another guy’s…face could be blown. Well, our favorite Oaks certainly got the raw end of this relationship.

Protesters living in trees near Memorial Stadium are suspected of causing damage to two of the trees in the area according to police who said they are continuing to investigate the situation.

Members of the Save the Oaks at the Stadium coaltion are suspected of causing damage to a cedar and redwood during construction of a sleeping platform, said UCPD Lt. Doug Wing.

The person or group responsible for the damage could face misdemeanor charges for vandalizing the trees, which are the property of the university, as well as charges for trespassing and lodging on campus, Wing said. “They have no legal right to be there and they’re trespassing on UC property,” he said.

We kind of feel sorry for hippies–anytime they try to have an effect on policymaking, they have no influence, and even when they try to make a statement, they find a way to foul it up. Then we realize we have lives and move on. Just remember the distance and relationship thing.
