Downloading Simplicity, Part IV–No More Norton

We’re all sick of Norton, aren’t we? Updates every day, reminders to subscribe, Friday night bug checks, and it STILL doesn’t come close to ridding us of all the bugs and worms in our system. So naturally we get disgusted with it and want some better alternatives. Thankfully, we’ve scrounged up one, and have been living virus-free and Norton-free for over a year now. Good times all around.
First of all, grab the Norton Removal Tool. This should clean out any remaining vestiges of that pesky piece of junk, allowing you to move on toward a sleeker, cleaner solution.
Introducing Clamwin, a nice patch of open source software that provides excellent anti-virus capabilities without all the needless updates and money-grabbing baggage that Norton carries with it. Plus it doesn’t clog up your system with extra features and the additional LiveUpdate feature; Clamwin has all the features you need for protecting your top from all the nasty junk that exists out there. Also using Firefox when you’re on the ‘Net helps out…but that’s another series.
If you don’t feel too secure with Clamwin, you can also grab Ad-aware and Spybot, but the former is really all you need.
