Cal Volleyball All-Star of the Week: Angie Pressey
As usual, I have overlooked other Cal sports over the past…seven months, and during this long, interminable offseason I hope to reward our good teams with feature posts.
So let’s start with the Cal Volleyball All-Stars. By all-stars, I mean girls with sparkling all-around bodies of work. This team got all the way to the Final Four in Sacramento, finishing with their highest NCAA ranking ever. These girls know how to spike those balls, right over the net and pushing themselves to their very limit. Golden Bears through and through.
(I am stretching my invaluable knowledge of volleyball to the limit. My good experiences with the sport involves a beach ball. And we were all sitting on the floor. And there were thirty of us. And I was in 4th grade. And people were amazed at my talent. Baller…)
Let’s meet some of them, shall we?

Angie Pressey is the biggest all-star on this past season’s, a premier player who’s certainly not at the ideal height (5’8″) for as sport dominated by six-footers (even on the women’s side). Back when she lived in my old hometown of Orlando, legend has it she had a vertical leap that surpassed Kobe Bryant’s at his NBA peak at 43 inches. Even if that urban legend is a little far fetched, she clearly could have leaped an Aston-Martin too. Perhaps she could have cleared an SUV too. Anyway, that leap gives her the ability to compete in the volleyball game, utilizing a deadly outside hitting game to serve opposing defenders into submission.
