Cal Girls: Sumi Das
Listen, I’ll be the first to admit: I can’t watch Bollywood movies without breaking out into open laughter. Whenever I see guys doing Jazz-hands, I’m gonna start cracking up no matter what.* However, that doesn’t mean Indian ladies don’t have their laurels. Sumi Das is probably one of the most striking and recognizable Cal grads. She’s been on TV for over 10 years now and has two Emmy nominations, but no wins as of yet. Her good looks and smooth voice has made her a hot commodity in the news world with stints at CBS, NBC and now CNN.
*Danzig does not understand the brilliance of four hour song and dance routines that would have made Busby Berkeley blush with bemusement. Bears Necessity firmly supports the Bollywood film industry in its attempts to bring mirth and joy to the people of India and unintentional comedy to the land of America.

Sumi Das - Class of 1995, Majored in Psychology and minored in English
After graduation she did some radio and then a lot of associate producer work at ZDTV hoping to build her career behind the camera rather than in front of it. However, that wouldn’t last long because somebody eventually asked her to go on camera for a weekly segment where she read tech-related news, setting the standard for Morgan Webb to follow.
Eventually she became the co-host of “Fresh Gear, ” a show that provided news on consumer tech gadgets. She really broke out onto the national scene when she covered the Hurricane Katrina disaster on location for CNN.
