Where’s the Award for Best Tree Hugger?

The Daily Cal, in their always infinite wisdom, has decided to put the power of finding what is best about Berkeley into your hands. Yes, you, student, your privileged and adaptable hands, to discover the hidden gems of Cal…or at least the ones where everyone and their friends and posses show up.
That’s why the Daily Cal held their annual Best of Berkeley series to figure out what is best about this oasis called Berkeley. Considering their choices, though, I don’t think I’ve gained any insights or new places to check out.
Best Place to Study: Main Stacks
Best Campus Eccentric: Happy Happy Man
Best Bar: Bear’s Lair
Best Bagels: Noah’s
Best Dessert: Yogurt Park
Best Hot Dog: Top Dog
Best Indian Food: House of Curries
These choices are kinda like saying that the last six seasons of the Simpsons are the best yet because more people watch the show than ever before. Being popular does not mean it’s better. Everyone still eats at McDonalds. By that criteria, can’t I say that’s the best restaurant in Berkeley? For our money, no hipster restaurant here will ever touch the McGriddle in stature. Of course we never have to spend too much on those things.
We should do a hidden gems series. Readers, do you have any favorite spots in Cal that no one talks about or goes to?
