Barry Bonds, Feeling Young Again

Posted by: Avinash on Monday, July 23rd, 2007

See that young chapper above? That’s Barry Bonds, or was him when he resembled a normal human being. By the end of this week, he’ll probably be your home run king. At least for another six or seven years, when the even more unlikeable A-Rod will surpass him. So no matter what happens, the American people will lose.

We’re not Bonds apologists. We’ll be fairly happy when the man knocks out 756 so ESPN won’t have to keep cutting away from its stellar primetime lineup (we are so into “Who’s Now?” that we just want to end it all). But he’s still one of the best players of all time, so just like last time, we’re allowing the bloggers to pay homage to the great man. The lauding begins after the jump, and we actually did find a few people with some love. Not everyone has as cold a heart as you. Or me.

Finally, Screw Everybody brings us the first Barry Bonds love we’ve seen all year. Apparently someone out still loves old Mr. Big Deep Shot, and they’re not afraid to express it:

Look . . .

1. Barry has sheer, raw talent and extreme athletic eye-hand coordination. He is a consummate athlete. Any drugs in his system in the past did not cause him to be a great athlete. He is one.

2. Barry hit many of his home runs in Candlestick – tough, COLD, windy weather. Remarkable.

3. Do you truly believe these so called baseball purist or fans who think Barry’s records should include asterisks or that he should eventually be denied entrance to the Hall of Fame? True baseball fans know that the Hall of Fame has plenty of members who cheated – pitchers who changed the make-up of the balls . . . you know. . .

4. Do you believe that Barry is the only player that may have done something to his body? No pitchers were “juiced” against him? Come on . . .

5. The fact we all know in OUR HEARTS that BARRY IS AN AWESOME HITTER!! And, truly loved by many.

See, if only everyone had the same optimism and residual fortitiude as these intrepid folks. You know how people feel about Sosa and McGwire, and Canseco, and Clemens and Grimsley? You should feel exactly the same way about Bonds. So there. Treat every cheater or possible cheater alike and stop with your griping.

A seven game homestretch with the Braves and Marlins starts tonight. Come on Barry, get this done so we can all stop paying attention to you.

BallHype: hype it up!
