The less-reputed cousin of MCB, IB majors take a great deal of pride (or is it alcohol?) in their work. Besides, who wouldn’t want to get the opportunity to work with cute little cuddly bears like our buddy Knut above? We’d ask them more about how much they enjoy their major, but we’re going to spend time ogling over pictures and video of our awesome little guy.At least you’ll get their takes on their profs.

(Have any memories about professors in this department for a class or in general? Contribute them in the comments.)

IB 41, Marine Mammals
David Lindberg, MW 9-10, 155 Dwinelle
“This class is ridiculous. It should be easy because the material isn’t that hard to comprehend (except for when he contradicts himself)… Finals and midterms tested students on minute details and random facts….took this class for my biological science breadth requirement, and it was much too hard for a two-unit class.”

IB C82, Introduction to Oceans
Thomas “Zack” Powell, MW 1-2, 155 Dwinelle
“The subject is definitely not interesting, especially because it was taught by this professor who is very boring…The study guide is not a precussor to the midterm- not by a long shot. The book is your best friend. Lecture very very boring. Slides not helpful…I feel compeled to say that this is the worst professor I have ever had at Cal. He is the master of boredom.”

IB 117, Medical Ethnobotany
Tom Carlson, Th 6-8, 2050 VLSB
Exercise Physiology: Human Bioenergetics and Its Applications
“3 days of work=solid A. this is all that needs to be said…Tests only on a reader full of power point slides. Clear about what he’s testing on, just a lot of memorization on the plants, their uses, and how they work…unless you love memorizing scientific names of plants + geog. origin, etc, then this class isnt for you.”

IB 131/131A, General Human/Applied Anatomy
Marian Diamond, MWF 11-12, Wheeler Aud/F 12-1, 10 Evans
Wheater's Functional Histology: A Text and Colour AtlasHuman Anatomy (5th Edition) (MyA&P Series)The Anatomy Coloring Book (3rd Edition)
“Prof Diamond is the cutest professor ever. She lights up everytime she talks about anatomy…It is possible to come out of that class with an A having learned a fair amount or not even knowing general terms such as posterior and anterior…very friendly and accessible in OH, and even took some students to lunch.”

IB 135, The Mechanics of Organisms
Robert Full, TuTh 1230-2, 2040 VLSB
Life in Moving FluidsMechanical Design in Organisms
“Only half the class is lecture based. It’s basically review of biology 1a…posted grades ranging from 70-96, but gave everyone a final letter grade “A.” Fair? hardly…if you want to expand your mind, hear about the latest in research, and have an extremely charismatic professor, then take this class!”

IB 137, General Endocrinology
Tyrone Hayes
, TuTh 2-330, 2060 VLSB
Endocrinology (6th Edition)
“Take advantage of his offers to help you; he will do everything he can to help you do well, he really cares…Lecture is like watching a great TV show….His ideas, values, experiences, all make him a professor you don’t want to pass up…It’s a little sad for other professors because now they will always be compared to THE Prof Tyrone Hayes.”

IB 160, Evolution
Kevin Padian, MWF 10-11, 2060 VLSB
Evolution

“Funny, knowledgable, and kind… research paper and lots of annoying weekly reading assignments…Anth majors be warned: he’s very hostile toward the subject of anthropology/primate/hominid evolution…Sharp and witty, ultra knowledgeable, and he studies dinosaurs, can you get any cooler?”
