UC Berkeley: Making You Feel Less in Debt, Part I

Posted by: Avinash on Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

In a rare act of charity, our beloved school has decided to bestow several students who have excelled in their fields with precious scholarships to shroud them in the idea that they won’t be poor the rest of their lives. We will be featuring several of them over the next couple of days, with the help of Facebook.

Samuel Pittman (Interdisciplinary Studies ‘08)

Pittman, seen here grasping for enlightenment, won $32,000 from the Beinecke Scholarship for the arts, humanities, and social sciences. To put that into perspective, that’s ten straight correct answers on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? See how far hard work brings you?

According to his profile, Pittman’s particular interdisciplinary study involves depiction of identity. He appreciates Tom Tykwer films (Princess and the Warrior and Run Lola Run), so we know he has better taste in films than 90 percent of the population.

He is also sexually nontraditional, so our gay males out there, we hope you’ve been looking from some intellectual beefcake!
