War And Remembrance

It’s Memorial Day, so we’ve decided to provide those who aren’t out on the road or some holiday entertainment. And what commemorates Memorial Day more than some good old war films (other than serving of course, our humblest regards to our able and finest overseas)? We’ve tried to delve as far as we can, and we’ve settled on these several movies/documentaries about war. We sadly couldn’t find much on the actual soldiers other than the ones everyone hates, so we’ll give you what we got.

The Classic: The Battleship Potemkin

For either the diehard film buff, or the grandfathers who can operate computers, or people who realize that silent films actually did happen. Meet any of these criteria and you’re good to go.

The War Reel: The Memphis Belle, A Story Of A Flying Fortress

For as God said to Moses, “Love thy Flying Fortress as thou loves thineself.”

The Awesome: Why We Fight

Do you have a hankering for discovering everything you can about the Second World War? Well, if you’d like a comprehensive, pro-American history of what actually happened before, during, and after, this is your first stop ticket. An excellent contextual documentary of WWII (its production began in 1943) which, while not factually correct on all counts, gives you an idea of what good propaganda film-making is like.

The Best: The Killing Fields

Don’t leave Dith Pran behind again.

Bonus: If you like something more interactive on your Memorial Day Monday, download the Company of Heroes demo. Unfortunately our laptop appears ill-equipped and has frozen the game, so we’re probably not going to be able to play it too much, but no reason for you to miss out on all the entertainment. Enjoy folks, and kill Nazis!

If you have some passing thoughts this Memorial Day, leave them in the comments.

BallHype: hype it up!
